Your body knows when it needs a nutrient that it is not getting. Best of all, it tells you that it needs it. It’s way of telling you is what we call a “craving.” But, cravings are deceptive. We aren’t always capable of discerning why we are craving a certain food. For example, some pregnant women crave dirt. Their bodies aren’t asking them to eat dirt. Their bodies are trying to tell them that they are iron deficient. Eating spinach would be a more appropriate food than dirt. If you are not in tune to your cravings and what they actually mean, you may be over-eating or choosing the wrong foods to meet your needs.
